Once placement is finalized, routing begins. The rest of the parts are then placed, often initially in groups then spread out. This is placing parts whose location is critical, such as connectors that must mate to another board. Then component footprints are built that show the shape of the component, pinouts, and orientation of the part on the board. The first step is to create the board outline with the shape, keepouts, and clearances. It is important that designers follow a series of steps to ensure the board is optimized. The role of a PCB designer is to take a two dimensional schematic and create three dimensional renderings that are ultimately used to manufacture the PCB. We are offering some tips to start your path to becoming a PCB designer. Becoming a PCB designer can be pretty difficult due to the large amount of different elements that must be learned. A PCB designer’s job is very important when it comes to the creation of a product and the printed circuit boards within it. We see it as just getting better as PCB technologies continue to become more complex. PCB design is a career path with many opportunities to grow.
